Lacrosse Drops NEWMAC Decision with Smith

Northampton, Mass. - April 14, 2022 - The Mount Holyoke College lacrosse team fell to local-foe Smith College, 18-5, on Wednesday evening in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play.

Sophomore Caroline Thompson (Harwich, Mass.) and first-year Ella Phillips (Sandwich, Mass.) each registered two goals and one assist in the setback, while Emma Bowler (West Springfield, Mass.) made a career-best 19 stops in her second start of the season.

After surrendering the first goal of the game, Phillips responded with an unassisted tally just 44 seconds later to even the game at one. Smith would score the next pair before Phillips' second of the game made it 3-2, Pioneers, with 3:33 to play in the first quarter.

Smith opened the second quarter on a six-goal run to take an 11-2 lead before Emma Legacki (Pennington, N.J.) found the back of the net on a feed from Thompson to end the run with 2:35 to play in the first half.

Thompson scored just 2:28 into the third quarter and notched her second tally late in the frame but the Pioneers prevailed 18-5.

Up next, Mount Holyoke returns home to host Wheaton at 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 16. The Lyons will honor their senior class prior to the contest.
