Four Lacrosse Student-Athletes Net Hat Trick to Cruise to a 20-5 Victory Over MCLA

North Adams, Mass. - March 8, 2022 - Eight different student-athletes tallied at least one goal as the Mount Holyoke College lacrosse team cruised to a 20-5 victory over the MCLA Trailblazers in their second non-conference game of the season on Tuesday afternoon.

With the win, the Lyons improve to a record of 1-1, while the Trailblazers fall to a record of 0-1 on the season. Mount Holyoke outshot MCLA 33-12 and held a significant advantaged in draws, controlling 18 to the Trailblazer's eight. 

Mount Holyoke used a balanced offensive attack which included a 4-0 run spanning over seven minutes. Senior Emma Legacki (Pennington, N.J.) finished with seven points on three goals and four assists, while picking up two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Sophomore Caroline Thompson (Harwich, Mass.) found the back of the net three times and recorded three ground balls, while junior Erin Foley (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) notched four points on three goals and an assist. Classmate Lucy Stone (Peachtree City, Ga.) posted five points on three goals and two assists, while picking up four ground balls and a caused turnover. 

First-year Ella Phillips (Sandwich, Mass.) recorded a pair of goals, two assists, and two ground balls while senior Allie Brown (Burlington, Vt.) notched two goals, two assists, five ground balls, and a game-high four caused turnovers. Sophomore Hannah Bisson (South Hadley, Mass.) found the back of the net twice and posted two caused turnovers, while first-year Maddie Millyan (Wincester, Mass.) recorded two goals.

On the defensive end, senior Morgan Tanguay (Candia, N.H.) picked up three caused turnovers and an assist, while in the net for the Mount Holyoke, first-year Emma Louise Tower (Dover, N.H.) made five saves en route to her first victory of the season.

Just 1:23 into the contest, Thompson scored her first goal of the season to put Mount Holyoke on top 1-0. MCLA was able to hold off the Lyons until Stone passed the ball to Phillips who found the back of the net 5:03 into the first quarter. Phillips gained the advantage on the draw control followed by Foley recording an unassisted goal. Legacki would gain control of the draw who would pass the ball to Stone who found the back of the net 36 seconds after that. MCLA would score their first goal with 7:23 remaining in the first period as Julia Graham would successfully make the shot. Sixteen seconds later Mount Holyoke responded as Foley posted her second goal of the day, followed by a goal from Legacki after a pass from Brown 11 seconds after gaining the draw control. MCLA scored two more goals until the clock expired with Mount Holyoke leading 6-3 after the first quarter.

MCLA started off the second quarter with a goal from Brooke DiGennaro 3:15 into the period, until Mount Holyoke responded with an 8-0 run over six minutes of play. Thompson recorded the final goal of that run with 1:59 remaining after converting a free-position shot into a goal, keeping Mount Holyoke in the lead 14-4 after the first half. 

Starting out the third period, Bisson found the back of the net after a pass from Phillips 2:10 into the second half. Thompson scored a second goal from a free-position opportunity until Graham of MCLA posted a goal from a free-position shot. Mount Holyoke responded with goals from Legacki, Bisson, and Millyan until Millyan found the back of the net a second time in the period with under a second remaining in the third quarter.  

Mount Holyoke brought a strong defense to the final quarter, keeping MCLA out of the net to take home the victory 20-5 in their second game of the season. 

Mount Holyoke College is back in action on Monday, March 14 as they travel to Clearwater, Fla. to face off Rhodes College.
