Lacrosse Drops NEWMAC Contest With Wellesley

Wellesley, Mass. - April 23, 2022 - The Mount Holyoke College lacrosse team dropped a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) bout with Wellesley, 19-7, on Saturday afternoon at Butler Stadium.

Senior Allie Brown (Burlington, Vt.) led the Lyons with four points on three goals and one assist to go along with a team-best six draw controls, while Emma Legacki (Pennington, N.J.) added three goals and three draw controls in the setback. 

Legacki scored the first goal of the game just 4:36 into the contest before Wellesley scored five unanswered goals to take a 5-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. First-year Ella Phillips (Sandwich, Mass.) found the back of the net in the second quarter to cut the Lyons' deficit to four, but the Blue closed out the first half with three goals to make it 9-2, Wellesley.

Mount Holyoke found the back of the net twice in the third quarter, both markers from Brown, before Brown and Legacki scored back-to-back to begin the fourth quarter, pulling the Lyons to within eight. Wellesley then went on a 5-0 run to open a 19-6 lead before Legacki scored the final goal of the contest with 2:25 remaining.

Up next, Mount Holyoke will return home to host Clark on Wednesday, April 27 at 6 p.m.
