Lacrosse Falls to Wheaton on Senior Day

South Hadley, Mass. - April 16, 2022 - The Mount Holyoke College lacrosse team fell to Wheaton College, 18-4, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play at the MHC Turf & Track Complex on Saturday afternoon. The Lyons recognized the five members of their senior class prior to the contest.

Senior Allie Brown (Burlington, Vt.) led the Lyons with two goals and one assist, while Hannah Bisson (South Hadley, Mass.) and Emma Legacki (Pennington, N.J.) registered the other two markers for Mount Holyoke. Wheaton was led by Erin Ortega, who posted four goals and added a helper, while Darien Webb notched two goals, two assists, three ground balls and six draw controls in the victory. 

In net for Mount Holyoke, Emma Bowler (West Springfield, Mass.) made 12 saves and picked up a team-best eight ground balls. Brown posted a game-high seven draw controls over 60 minutes of play.

Mount Holyoke College got on the board first when Annika Brooks (Portland, Maine) dished a feed to Bisson in transition before the sophomore found the back of the net to make it 1-0, hosts, just 4:17 into the contest. From there, Wheaton scored three goals in the final 7:41 of the frame to take a 3-1 lead into the second quarter.

It was all Wheaton in the second, as five-straight goals including a pair from Abigail Mountain helped the visitors to an 8-1 lead at the half.

After Wheaton scored the first two of the second half, Brown answered with a strike off an assist from Ella Phillips (Sandwich, Mass.) Legacki and Brown would score back-to-back goals just 1:19 apart, but Wheaton would hang on for the 18-4 win.

Mount Holyoke College is now 1-9 on the year with an 0-6 mark in league play. Wheaton improves to 9-5 overall with a 4-2 record in the NEWMAC.

The Lyons will return to action on Wednesday, April 20 when they host Coast Guard at 6 p.m.
