WORCESTER, Mass. -- Mount Holyoke College varsity eight picked up a victory over Simmons University Saturday in a weather-shortened New England Rowing Championships on Lake Quinsigamond.
The Lyons' 1V8 placed sixth among six boats in its morning heat in 7:50.010, trailing Tufts (7:03.992), Williams, Smith, Coast Guard, and Connecticut College (7:42.480). Moving on to Final 3, for boats ranked 13th through 17th after preliminaries, the Lyons finished the course in 9:11.170, trailing Clark (8:21.099), Colby, and Connecticut College (8:59.002) while outpacing Simmons (10:44.118).
The Lyons' second varsity eight finished its morning heat in 8:13.693, fifth behind MIT (7:16.508), Williams, Smith, and Middlebury (7:59.469). Saturday afternoon's W2V8 Finals were all cancelled due to unsafe conditions, ending Mount Holyoke's chance to row against Connecticut College and Clark University in Final 3.
Mount Holyoke returns to Lake Quinsigamond on Sunday, May 11 for the Naitonal Invitational Rowing Championships.
