HADLEY, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College rowing team got its first official racing of the spring season in on Saturday, racing at nearby Amherst College along with Bryant University on the Connecticut River.

Mount Holyoke's second varsity eight (2V8) outraced the host Mammoths head-to-head, 8:03.7 to 8:23.2, to highlight the day for the Lyons. In the three-boat 1V8 race, Amherst took first place in 7:09.9, followed by Bryant in 7:11.2 and Mount Holyoke in 7:27.9.

The races took place a week after the Lyons returned from their spring break training trip to Clemson University in South Carolina.

"After a productive training trip over break we had to wait a week to get back out on the water, but it was great to finally be back on the Connecticut and officially start the spring," said head coach Cara Murphy.

Mount Holyoke races at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., next Saturday, April 5.
