SHREWSBURY, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College rowing team fielded three boats Saturday at the Wormtown Chase, the final regatta of the fall season, with the Lyons' first varsity eight placing ninth among 18 boats in Women's Collegiate Eights.
The regatta featured competition from Wesleyan, Holy Cross, WPI, Coast Guard, Clark, Bryant, Amherst and New Hampshire; it featured "head races" of approximately 3 miles.
Mount Holyoke's 1V8 coxswained by senior Jen Butler (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished in 18:25.447, ahead of Bryant's A boat and a spot behind WPI's B boat. Wesleyan led the way in 16:55.702.
Mount Holyoke's 2V8, coxed by senior Miranda Hull (Baltimore, Md.), placed 16th in the event in 20:15.2, topping WPI's C and D boats and trailing Clark's B boat by 3.3 seconds.
Mount Holyoke took first out of three boats in Women's Collegiate Novice Eights, coxed by first-year Charlotte Hamilton (Ithaca, N.Y.), finishing the course in 19:51.5 to far outpace Amherst (22:13.655) and New Hampshire (22:43.299).
