Rowing places 6th at NEWMACs; Carroll, Holbrook win All-Conference honors

WORCESTER, Mass. -- Mount Holyoke College placed sixth among seven teams Saturday at the 2025 NEWMAC Rowing Championships, with three eights competing for the Lyons on Lake Quinsigamond.

Wellesley College captured the conference championship with 43 points, gaining the conference's automatic qualification for the NCAA Championships in the process. In the final conference championship standings, WPI finished second with 38 points, followed by Smith with 36 and Coast Guard with 33. Clark (23), Mount Holyoke (22), and Simmons (15) rounded out the table.

The Lyons also placed fifth out of seven teams in the standings for the Florence Jope Smith Cup, awarded annually to the team with the most overall points across all races. The Lyons scored 10 Smith Cup points, topping sixth-place Clark by two points.

Mount Holyoke landed two rowers on the All-NEWMAC Second Team: senior Lilla Carroll (Birmingham, Ala.) repeated as a Second Team All-NEWMAC pick, and sophomore Katrina Holbrook (St. Paul, Minn.) joined Carroll as a first-time honoree.

In the 1V8 race, Mount Holyoke, coxed by senior Jen Butler (Knoxville, Tenn.), took sixth place out of seven boats in a time of 8:48.647, outracing seventh-place Simmons (9:05.346).
Mount Holyoke's 2V8, coxed by junior Sarah Plotkin (Duxbury, Mass.), placed fifth among six boats, outpacing Clark 8:31.993 to 8:40.949.

The Lyons' 3V8 boat, coxed by senior Miranda Hull (Baltimore, Md.), placed fifth among five boats in 10:07.502.

Mount Holyoke competes at the New England Rowing Championships next Saturday, May 3, out of Regatta Point in Worcester, Mass.
