WESTON, Mass. -- Senior Sophia Guziewicz scored both goals as the Mount Holyoke College field hockey team won 2-0 at Regis College on Thursday, giving Lyons head coach Andy Whitcomb her 299th career victory.

Guziewicz (Claremont, N.H.) increased her team scoring lead with her eighth and ninth goals of the season, scored less than three minutes apart in game action, but on opposite sides of halftime. Guziewicz now has 15 career goals and is tied for second in the NEWMAC in goals this season.

Regis (3-7) stayed tied at 0-0 with Mount Holyoke (7-6) through the first 28 minutes of the game despite a 10-0 shot deficit. But on a penalty corner with 1:17 remaining, following a blocked shot by sophomore Linnea Alsted (Crownsville, Md.), senior Jayonna Montigny (Enfield, Conn.) fed Guziewicz for the score and 1-0 Lyons lead.

Less than two minutes into the third quarter, on another penalty corner, Guziewicz doubled Mount Holyoke's lead with a solo score.

The Lyons held off the Pride the rest of the way, finishing with a 17-5 advantage in shots and a 14-4 edge in corners.

Senior Rachel Katzenberg (Reisterstown, Md.) recorded her second shutout of the season and the fifth of her career with two saves. Sarai Velez made six saves for Regis.

Whitcomb has won 280 games in 27 seasons as Mount Holyoke's head coach, and began her career with 19 wins as head coach at Montclair State.

Mount Holyoke's next game will be at home Saturday at 7pm against Smith College; the Lyons will also celebrate Senior Night.
