SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Johanna Snyder scored on a penalty stroke awarded one minute into sudden victory overtime, giving Lasell University a 2-1 victory over the Mount Holyoke College field hockey team Thursday night on the MHC Turf, ending the host Lyons' five-game win streak.
Lasell (4-2) took a 1-0 lead in the third minute of the second quarter, as Jacquelyn Scopa knocked a loose ball from in close to the Lyons goal.
Mount Holyoke (5-2) tied the game with 11:08 left in the fourth quarter, as sophomore Scout Climie (Guilford, Conn.) took the insertion pass from senior Jayonna Montigny (Enfield, Conn.) on a penalty corner, then swept the ball to sophomore Linnea Alsted (Crownsville, Md.) on her left. Alsted fired and scored inside the near left post for her fifth goal of the season.
Mount Holyoke had eight penalty corners in the fourth quarter to even the count at 8-8 between the teams. Lasell outshot Mount Holyoke by a 13-5 margin in game game, including a 7-0 difference in the second quarter.
Senior Rachel Katzenberg (Reisterstown, Md.) collected six saves in the game, while both Alsted and senior Sophia Guziewicz (Claremont, N.H.) recorded defensive saves on penalty corner shots.
Courtney Tello earned the win in goal for Lasell with three saves.
Mount Holyoke will host WPI in its NEWMAC opener Saturday at 11am.
