Golf Finishes 5th at Jack Leaman Invitational

AMHERST, Mass. - The Mount Holyoke College golf team powered its way to a fifth-place finish at the 2015 Jack Leaman Invitational, hosted by Amherst College at the Hickory Ridge Golf Club. The event, which was just one day this year, saw the Lyons shoot a combined 332 which was just two strokes out of fourth and seven strokes from second overall.

Senior captain Madi Mendiola paced the efforts on Saturday, finishing in a tie for seventh overall, with a score of 80. Sophomores June Conti and Allison Shilling each placed 14th overall, shooting an 83, while classmate Amanda Lee was 29th overall with a score of 86.

Rounding out the team scoring was sophomore Heeamin Lee, who placed 35th on the day with a score of 88.

Ithaca won Saturday's event, posting a team score of 324. Middlebury and Williams finished tied for second with a score of 325, while New York University was fourth with a combined 330.

Mount Holyoke now sets its sights toward next weekend as it looks to defend its Liberty League Championship title. The 2015 championships, which are hosted by William Smith College, will begin on Saturday at the Clifton Springs Country Club. Action will conclude on Sunday.

The winner of this year's championship will also earn the automatic qualifier into the NCAA Tournament - which is in effect for the first time since the Lyons joined in 2012-13.
