Golf Finishes 5th in Spring Opener at Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Mount Holyoke College golf team posted a combined team score of 329 on day two to finish fifth overall at the 2015 Vassar Invitational, hosted by Vassar College. The Lyons were paced by sophomore June Conti, who finished tied for 17th at the event.

Conti (Amenia, N.Y./Miss Porter's School) notched an opening round score of 87, but rebounded in outstanding fashion on Sunday with a score of 78. She finished with a total score of 165 on the weekend.

Senior Madi Mendiola (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) finished second on the team and 23rd overall with a total score of 169. She shot an 83 on day one, following it up with a score of 86 on Sunday.

Finishing in a tie for 25th was sophomore Amanda Lee (Windsor, Conn./Ethel Walker School), who notched an 86 in the opening round and bettered it by a shot on Sunday with an 85. Overall, she had a combined score of 171.

Sophomore Allison Shilling (New Canaan, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) finished in a tie for 35th on the day, posting scores of 91 and 84 for a two-day total of 175, while classmate Heeamin Lee (Chestnut Hill, Mass./Brookline) was close behind in 38th, recording a 95 and an 82 in the final round for a total of 177.

Williams won the team event with a score of 617, while individually the Ephs saw Shelby Shote take medalist honors with a combined score of 148 on the weekend.

Mount Holyoke returns to action next weekend when it takes part in the two-day Jack Leaman Invitational, hosted by Amherst College.
