Golf Places 6th at Williams Fall Invitational

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Action at the 2014 Williams Fall Invitational, hosted by Williams College, has concluded and the Mount Holyoke College golf team placed sixth among 15 competing teams at this year's event. The Lyons posted a combined score of 689 at the two-day meet, while the homestanding Ephs claimed this year's title with a score of 624.

Senior captain Madi Mendiola (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) paced MHC overall, finishing 11th with a combined score of 162. After shooting an 84 on day one, Mendiola rebounded with an impressive 78 on day two.

Sophomore captain Allison Shilling (New Canaan, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) was 23rd on the weekend with an overall mark of 170, shooting 83 on day one and 87 in the final round. Classmate June Conti (Amenia, N.Y./Miss Porter's School) was close behind, finishing 27th overall with a score of 173. She shot an 86 on day one and an 87 for day two.

Sophomore Heeamin Lee (Chestnut Hill, Mass./Brookline) finished 44th at the meet with a 184, including a 93 on day one and a 91 in the final round. Wrapping up the team scoring was sophomore Kelly McElreath (Oakland, Mich./Notre Dame Prep.), who placed 63rd with a score of 200 (99-101).

Also competing individually for the Lyons was junior Katie Poulin (Scarborough, Maine/Catherine McAuley), who was 74th with a 222 combined score (106-116).

Williams' Shelby Shote won medalist honors, posting a combined 148 (73-75) to win. The Ephs recorded a combined score of 624, including a sparkling 309 combined score on day two. Ithaca was second (641), followed by NYU (646), Middlebury (671), SUNY Cortland (686) and Mount Holyoke (689).

The Lyons return to action next weekend, competing in their final meet of the fall, the Ann S. Batchelder Invitational at Wellesley College. Action begins on Saturday and concludes on Sunday.
