Golf Sits 6th After Day 1 of MHC Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Day one of action at the 2014 Mount Holyoke Invitational, hosted at The Orchards Golf Club, is in the books and through the First Round the Mount Holyoke College golf team sits sixth of 15 teams. Leading the action on day one for the Lyons was senior captain Madi Mendiola, who is sixth overall with a score of 80.

Mendiola (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) is currently in a three-way tie after day one with New York University's Alyssa Poentis and Amherst College's Zoe Wong. Sophomore June Conti (Amenia, N.Y./Miss Porter's School) sits 21st in the field with an 84, while classmate and captain Allison Shilling (New Caanan, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) is tied for 27th with a score of 87.

Rounding out the team efforts for MHC were sophomores Heeamin Lee (Chestnut Hill, Mass./Brookline) and Amanda Lee (Windsor, Conn./Ethel Walker School), who are 38th (91) and 42nd (92), respectively after day one.

Individually, sophomore Kelly McElreath (Oakland, Mich./Notre Dame Prep) is 57th with a score of 95. Junior Hannah Lozinski (San Jose, Calif./Valley Christian) is tied for 74th with a 108, while classmate Katie Poulin (Scarborough, Maine/Catherine McAuley) is 78th with a 113. Also in action for the Lyons were sophomores JiYoung Kim and Vladislova Paskova who were 80th (115) and 81st (117), respectively.

Leading the field after day one are Middlebury's Michelle Peng and Amherst's Jamie Gracie, both of which shot a 76 in the First Round. As a team, Williams College leads with a score of 322. Middlebury is two strokes behind with a 324, while Ithaca is two strokes behind the Panthers with a 326.

NYU (331), Amherst (336) and Mount Holyoke (342) round out the top six.

Day two, the final day of action at this year's invitational, kicks off at 8:30am on Sunday at The Orchards.
