Golf Defeats William Smith in Final Florida Match

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – It was another victory for the Mount Holyoke College golf team, which defeated William Smith College on Wednesday on the Wanamaker Course at the PGA Village. The Lyons posted a score of 334 to best the Herons, who had a total of 396.

Leading the way for the Lyons was senior captain Madi Mendiola, who shot a total of 77 on the afternoon. Sophomore June Conti posted a solid score of 80, while classmate and captain Allison Shilling had a round score of 83. Highlighting Shilling's afternoon was her first career hole-in-one, achieved with an 8-iron on the 109 yard, hole #6 at Wanamaker.

Other highlights for the Lyons included sophomore Amanda Lee, who had a score of 94, classmate Kelly McElreath shot a 107, followed by junior Katie Poulin (108) and sophomores Heeamin Lee (109) and Vladislova Paskova (109).

For William Smith, Kara Capstraw shot a team low 96, while Natalie Powers and Maddie Dietz each recorded a round score of 99. Maddie Carens had a mark of 102, followed by Grace Fiacre (105), Annie O'Brien (107), Annabel Cryan (110) and Katie Pope (126).

Both squads are back in action on April 11-12 when they travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to compete at the 2015 Vassar Invitational.
