Maddy Sewell named NEWMAC Women's Diver of the Week

WESTWOOD, Mass. -- Mount Holyoke College junior Maddy Sewell was named NEWMAC Women's Diver of the Week Monday by the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference, after her superb performance over the weekend at the Don Richards Invitational at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Sewell (Scottsdale, Ariz.) took first place in both 1-meter and 3-meter diving to lead the Lyons to fifth place out of seven teams at the two-day meet, which concluded Saturday.

Sewell scored 409.15 points in 1-meter diving, outscoring runner-up Kay Oliver of RIT by 9.65 points for first place out of eight competitors. She later scored 415.45 points in 3-meter diving, outdistancing Oliver by 9.35 points for first place.

"I'm extremely proud of Maddy's performances this weekend," said Mount Holyoke diving coach Rachel Araujo. "This was Maddy's first 11-dive meet in her collegiate career after coming off of a season-long injury last year. She has been working really hard both on and off the pool deck in preparation for this week. The RIT invite was a great experience that will help set our training and expectations coming into our larger 11 dive meets later this season."

Already a qualifier for the NCAA Diving Regionals in February, Sewell claims her first collegiate athletic honor, and is the first Lyon to win the award since Kathryn Murphy '22 twice won it in 2021-22.
