Araujo wins third consecutive NEWMAC Diving Coach of the Year honor

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Mount Holyoke College diving coach Rachael Araujo was named the NEWMAC Women's Diving Coach for the third consecutive year on Friday, the same day she is to coach All-NEWMAC junior Maddy Sewell at the NCAA Regional Diving Championships.

Araujo was Mount Holyoke's first NEWMAC Diving Coach of the Year in 2020 and has earned the award in both seasons since, despite the graduation of All-American Kathryn Murphy '22.

Under Araujo's tutelage, Sewell (Scottsdale, Ariz.) is enjoying an outstanding "rookie" season, after she missed competing in both her first season due to the COVID-19 pandemic and last year due to injury.

Sewell was undefeated against opponents all season until the NEWMAC Championships, when she finished second only to MIT's Rachel Loh in both 1-meter and 3-meter diving, thereby picking up Second Team All-Conference honors in both events.
