Swimming and diving wins dual meet at Westfield State

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team won its second straight head-to-head meet on Saturday in the Lyons' first road meet, outscoring host Westfield State 166-115.

"The team has been working hard and it was great to see it pay off today," said head coach Dave Allen. "A number of people set season bests and a few set lifetime bests, which is great this early in the season."

Top-two event performances and highlights by Mount Holyoke included:

  • Junior Eliza Williams (Andover, Mass.) finished first in both the 1,000-yard (11:43.53) and 500-yard freestyle (5:43.87).
  • Sophomore Kamlyn Yosick (Portland, Ore.) took first place in the 50-yard freestyle (25.62) by .07 seconds over Alexa Richter, and also won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:20.58.
  • Sophomore Megan Schneider (Newton, Mass.) won both the 50-yard breaststroke (33.42) and the 100-yard freestyle (57.93).
  • Junior diver Maddy Sewell (Scottsdale, Ariz.) outscored her lone competitor, Westfield State's Kara Banagan, in both 1-meter (254.05 points) and 3-meter diving (255.35).
  • First-year Ruth Bailey (Edison, N.J.) placed first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.60) and second in the 500 free (5:50.64).
  • First-year Hannah Heierhoff (Wiesbaden, Germany) won the 200-yard butterfly (2:27.43).
  • Junior Adji Diouf (Arlington, Va.) placed second in the 50-yard backstroke (30.73).
  • First-year Melina Leary (Boulder, Colo.) placed second in the 1,000 freestyle (13:21.02).
  • Sophomore Emily Tarinelli (Groton, Conn.) placed second in the 200 butterfly (2:38.16).
  • Junior Evelyn Bushway (Schenectady, N.Y.) placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:43.26).

The Lyons return home to the MHC Natatorium for next Saturday's dual meet against Wellesley College, starting at 1pm.
