CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - First year diver Samantha Nemivant opened action at the 2017 NCAA Division III Diving Regionals on Friday, hosted by MIT. She is one of 28 female divers in the field competing for a spot at the 2017 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships, March 15-18 in Shenandoah, Texas.

Nemivant, who is a native of Scottsdale, Ariz., placed 19th in today's 1-meter event, posting a final score of 392.50 points. Highlighting her afternoon was a 42.00 point dive in the eighth round, which was a Reverse 1 1/2 Somersault Tuck. She also recorded 41.40 points in the 11th round with a Back 1 Somersault 1 1/2 Twist Free.

The rookie will return to action tomorrrow beginning at 12pm as she competes on the 3-meter board for the opportunity to qualify for the National Championships.

Nemivant looks to be the first diver to qualify and compete at the Division III National Championships since Lauren Griffin and Elena Giordano '03. Griffin qualified for the 2006 National Championships, while Giordano earned Honorable Mention All-America twice off the 1-meter board at the 2002 and 2003 Championships. Earlier this season, Nemivant eclipsed one of Giordano's record of 427.55 in the 3-meter (11-dive) event, posting a mark of 452.85 points at the Seven Sisters Championship.
