Swimming & Diving Concludes Day 1 at Hamilton Invitational

CLINTON, N.Y. - The Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team was in action on Friday evening, competing in the opening session of the 2016 Hamilton Invitational, hosted by Hamilton College. After the first day of action, the Lyons sit seventh overall.

Opening the action was the 200-yard medley relay team of senior Anne Kuenning, sophomore Bri Groves and seniors Katie Tyler and Emily Craig. The foursome combined for a time of 1:56.05, which put them in a two-way tie for second with the team from SUNY Cortland.

In the following event, Kuenning swam to 12th in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 5:44.89, while in the 200-yard individual medley, Groves exhibitioned but still recorded the top time with a mark of 2:14.87.

The 50-yard frees saw junior Topaz Mukulu place 14th overall with a time of 27.53, while sophomore Kate Flaherty was 19th with a time of 28.38. In the 200-yard butterfly, Tyler finished 10th with a time of 2:34.11, while first year Sarah Ratzlaff was 16th with a time of 3:00.47.

Kuenning then powered her way to fifth overall in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:04.38. Wrapping up the evening's swimming events was the 800-yard free relay, which saw Mount Holyoke place 10th overall.

The foursome of Ratzlaff, junior Amy Lim, first year Natalie Burkett and sophomore Delany Berry combined to post a time of 9:16.05.

Through the first 16 events, Oneonta State leads the women's field with a score of 286 points. The host Continentals are second with 245 points, followed by SUNY Cortland (244), SUNY Potsdam (119) and Smith College (157).

Action at the Hamilton Invitational continues on Saturday with the second session beginning at 10am. Session three will begin at 3:30pm to conclude the event.
