CLINTON, N.Y. - It was another outstanding day of action for the Mount Holyoke swimming & diving team, who finished seventh overall at the 2016 Hamilton Invitational, hosted by Hamilton College. The Lyons posted 375 points in the event, which saw the host Continentals capture the victory on the women's side, edging out Cortland State, 669 to 668.5.

Kicking-off the day was the Lyons 200-yard freestyle relay team of senior Katie Tyler, sophomore Bri Groves and seniors Anne Kuenning and Emily Craig. The foursome combined to win the event with a time of 1:43.27.

Craig went on to finish fifth in the 400-individual medley, touching the wall with a time of 5:00.35. Groves and Tyler were then in action in the 100-yard butterfly, placing third (1:01.42) and eighth (1:04.11), respectively.

Groves continued to produce strong efforts, placing second overall in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.10. She then combined once again with Kuenning, Tyler and Craig for a fifth-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay. The group touched with a time of 4:17.88.

In the 1650-yard freestyle, first year Natalie Burkett was ninth with a time of 20:25.13. She was joined in the event by classmate Sarah Ratzlaff, who placed 12th with a mark of 21:46.96.

Kuenning then rallied to seventh overall in the 200-yard backstroke, posting a time of 2:21.07, while in the 100-yard free, Tyler was also seventh with a time of 57.55. Groves grabbed her second runner-up finish of the day, this time in the 200-yard breast. She touched the wall in a time of 2:34.02.

Rounding out the swimming events was the 400-yard free relay team of Kuenning, Groves, Tyler and Craig, who finshed fifth overall with a time of 3:50.88.

In the diving events, first year Samantha Nemivant had an outstanding performance with regional qualifying championship marks off both boards. She posted a score of 408.00 points off the 1-meter to finish third overall before notching 451.35 points in the 3-meter event - once again placing third. Her score in the 3-meter event also eclipsed a long-standing program record, shattering NCAA Honorable Mention All-American Elena Giordano's record of 427.55 points.

Finishing second to Hamilton overall was Cortland State with a score of 668.5 points. Oneonta State was third with 657 points, followed by Smith (524) and Oswego State (425).

Mount Holyoke is now idle for the holidays, but returns to action on Thursday, January 12th when it hosts Clark and Wheaton for tri-match action beginning at 1pm.
