NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Karagan Bulger's goal broke a scoreless tie with 14:07 remaining, and the Coast Guard Academy went on to defeat Mount Holyoke College 1-0 in a NEWMAC women's soccer game Wednesday night.

The loss drops Mount Holyoke to 2-14-1 overall and 1-8 in NEWMAC play, and out of contention for a place in the conference postseason tournament. Coast Guard rises to 6-8-2 overall and 3-5-1 in the NEWMAC.

Coast Guard held a 16-0 advantage in shots attempted when Bulger put the Bears on the scoreboard for the first time in the 76th minute of the game. To that point, first-year goalkeeper Clarissa Govea's (Pico Rivera, Calif.) nine saves helped the Lyons keep the game tied and their postseason hopes alive. Govea has nine games with nine or more saves.

First-year Charlotte Moynihan (North Attleborough, Mass.) took Mount Holyoke's first shot of the game in the 78th minute, but it was saved by Coast Guard goalie Emily Scharnitzky.

Coast Guard attempted 16 corner kicks in the game, three more than any other Mount Holyoke opponent this season, while the Lyons attempted two.

The Lyons will play host to Wellesley College and celebrate Senior Day in their final game of the season Saturday at 1pm.
