Lyons' defense limits Clark's scoring chances, but Cougars prevail 2-0

WORCESTER, Mass. -- A creditable defensive effort helped the Mount Holyoke College soccer team limit Clark University to six shots on goal for the game, but the host Cougars prevailed 2-0 over the visiting Lyons in a NEWMAC game played Wednesday night at Granger Field.

Clark (7-4-1, 3-1-1 NEWMAC) extended its unbeaten streak to six straight games. Mount Holyoke (1-11, 0-5 NEWMAC) remained winless in conference play.

Clark got an unassisted goal from Jamie Joseph in the 13th minute, and added to its lead in the 61st minute as Joseph assisted Gabriella Herivaux's score.

The Cougars had an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks and outshot the Lyons by a 27-2 margin, but they only put four shots on goal other than the two scores. First-year goaltender Clarissa Govea (Pico Rivera, Calif.) made three saves and junior defender Echo Haverkamp (Philadelphia, Pa.) made a team save for Mount Holyoke as well.

Mount Holyoke continues its NEWMAC schedule with a game at Babson College Saturday at 1pm.
