Bisson's 100th goal sparks Lyons' win over Elms

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Emi Bisson scored her 100th career goal 14 seconds in, added two more scores in the opening 77 seconds of the game, and the Mount Holyoke College lacrosse team went on to defeat Elms College 19-8 in a non-conference game Tuesday night on the MHC Turf.

Bisson (Chester, Conn.) and first-year Juliana Spaulding (Wakefield, Mass.) finished the game with three goals and three assists apiece, and junior Elle Mader (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored a team- and career-high four goals to pace the Lyons (2-1). Spaulding added a game-high 10 draw controls and four caused turnovers.

Sophomore Mackenzie Hillman (Newington, Conn.) added a career-high three goals and an assist, while juniors Marielle Welch (Silver Spring, Md.) and Langley Berat (New York, N.Y.) scored two goals apiece. Senior Madison Millyan (Winchester, Mass.) contributed a goal and two assists.

Jackie Cronin had four goals, three assists and seven draw controls for the Blazers (0-3). Greta Frankwicz added three goals and Rachel Dort contributed a goal and an assist.

Three games into her junior season, Bisson becomes the eighth player in program history to score 100 goals.

Mount Holyoke outshot Elms by a 36-15 margin, including a 32-11 difference in shots on goal. Marisa LaRocque made 13 saves for Elms, while first-year Valeria Bolanos (Newington, Conn.) made three saves for Mount Holyoke.

Bisson's three goals all occurred before Elms ever had control of the ball. A man-down goal by Mader, assisted by Spaulding, gave Mount Holyoke a 4-0 lead before Frankwicz got Elms on the board with 8:06 to play, with a Cronin assist.

Mount Holyoke assumed a 6-2 lead when Millyan scored with under 10 seconds to go in the quarter, on junior defender Alex Twomey's (Nutley, N.J.) first career assist.

The Lyons made it a 5-0 run with four more unanswered goals to start the second quarter, scored in succession by Mader, Hillman, Berat and Welch. Dort interrupted the run with 3:48 to go, but Mader scored her third goal with 1:12 to go in the half, giving the Lyons an 11-3 edge.

Cronin led off the scoring in the third quarter for Elms, cutting the deficit to seven (11-4) for the last time. The Lyons outscored the Blazers 4-0 in the last 10 minutes of the quarter for a 15-4 lead. They kept the clock running by maintaining a double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter, leading by as many as 12 goals a-7 t 19on first-year Allison Del Sarto's (Issaquah, Wash.) first career goal, assisted by Bisson.

The Lyons open NEWMAC play on Friday at 6pm as they host Smith College. Elms hosts Albertus Magnus Saturday at 12pm.
