Golf Finishes Ninth at 2017 MHC Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Action at the 2017 MHC Invitational concluded on Sunday as the Williams College golf team took home this year's title at The Orchards. The Ephs have now won eight straight tournaments at MHC, dating back to 2010. The homestanding Lyons finished ninth overall in the field of 18 teams.

Leading the Lyons on day two was sophomore Susan Lee (Irvine, Calif./University HS), who posted a score of 79 in the second round. She finished 18th overall with a combined score of 159 after opening with a score of 80 in the First Round. Classmate Stephanie Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) finished 29th on the weekend, bettering her score to 80 on Sunday, a four-stroke improvement from Saturday's action. Overall she had a combined score of 164.

First year Caitlyn Richmond (Northampton, Mass./Northampton) finished 36th overall with a combined score of 168. She posted an 81 on day two, a six-stroke improvement from Saturday's score of 87. Sophomore Elizabeth Andrian (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) placed 49th in the field with a combined 175. She recorded an 89 on Sunday after opening the tournament with a score of 86. Rounding out the team action was first year Lahela Delaney (Honolulu, Hawaii/Roosevelt), who had a combined 197 on the weekend to place 76th overall. She posted a 99 in Final Round action after posting 98 on day one.

Individually for the Lyons, sophomore Madi Gale (Poulsbo, Wash./Kingston) was 93rd overall in the field with a combined score of 218 (113-105), while classmate Sophia Verducci (Park Ridge, N.J./Park Ridge) finished 100th overall with a combined 272 (133-139).

Williams captured this year's event with a combined team score of 603, including a blistering 296 on day two to win by 10-strokes over New York University. The Violets finished this year's event with a score of 613. Amherst College was third with a score of 628, followed by Middlebury College, which posted a 634 on the weekend. Vassar College rounded out the top five with a score of 658. Individually, Williams' Cordelia Chan garnered medalist honors, shooting a combined 145 (74-71) on the weekend. NYU's Ashley Lung was the medalist runner-up, achieving a combined score of 147 (74-73).

Mount Holyoke returns to action next weekend when it travels to Vermont to compete in the 2017 Middlebury College Invitational.
