Golf Sits 9th After Round 1 of MHC Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - First Round action at the 2017 MHC Invitational has concluded and after the first 18 holes, Mount Holyoke College is ninth in a field of 18 teams. The Lyons opened Saturday's action with a combined score of 337. New York University is the current team leader after shooting a combined 305.

Leading the Lyons is sophomore Susan Lee (Irvine, Calif./University HS), who posted a score of 80 in the opening slate of action, and is 17th overall in the field. Classmate Stephanie Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) is currently 32nd after recording an 84 in the First Round.

Sophomore Elizabeth Andrian (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) sits just two strokes behind Spitzer, shooting an 86 overall on Saturday. She is 39th overall in the field. First year Caitlyn Richmond (Northampton, Mass./Northampton) is 47th overall after the opening round, shooting an 87, while classmate Lahela Delaney (Honolulu, Hawaii/Roosevelt) rounded out the team action with a 98 - good for 71st overall.

Individually, the Lyons saw two players compete, paced by sophomore Madi Gale (Poulsbo, Wash./Kingston), who shot a 113 on the day for 94th overall. Classmate Sophia Verducci (Park Ridge, N.J./Park Ridge) is 100th overall with a score of 133.

New York University leads the overall team action by two strokes with Williams College close behind with a 307. Amherst College is third with a 318 score, while Middlebury is fourth with a 321. Rounding out the top five is Ithaca College, which owns a score of 330 after day one of action.

Individually, the invitational is being led by Williams' Cordelia Chan and NYU's Ashley Lung. Both recorded a score of 74 in the First Round.

Second Round action at this year's invitational continues on Sunday with several teams teeing-off at 8:30am. The Lyons will tee-off at 9:20am at hole #10. To see a complete list of all tee-off times, click HERE.
