BABSON PARK, Mass. (Jan. 28, 2012) – The Mount Holyoke College basketball team fell 85-36 to nationally-ranked Babson College this afternoon at Staake Gymnasium. First year guard Kate Karraker scored a career-best seven points to lead the way for the Lyons.
Mount Holyoke also received solid production from junior guards Jasmine Brown and Angelica Pascual, who finished with six points apiece. The Lyons were limited to 25.9% (15-58) shooting from floor. Brown chipped in with four assists and four rebounds.
With the win, Babson ran its winning streak to eight and improved to 12-0 in league play. The Beavers entered the contest ranked 16th in the latest D3hoops.com National Poll. They have now won 57 straight games versus NEWMAC foes.
Senior forward Kathleen King posted a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds to set the tone for the hosts. Junior center Sarah Collins piled up 23 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the floor. Meanwhile, classmate Nicki Wurdeman chipped in with 14 points, nine boards and six assists.
Babson (16-2, 12-0 NEWMAC) outscored the Lyons 54-14 in the pain and converted 20 turnovers into 24 points at the other end. As a team, the Beavers knocked down 50.0% (36-72) of their shots from the field and 90.0% (8-10) of their free throws. They drained five shots from beyond the arc.
Mount Holyoke enjoyed an 8-6 advantage five minutes into the game after a pair of three-pointers from Pascual and a driving layup by Brown. Babson responded with 18 straight points and never looked back. The Beavers took a 43-17 edge into the locker room and led by as many as 51 points down the stretch.
The Lyons (3-15, 1-11 NEWMAC) will resume their NEWMAC slate on Wednesday, when they visit Clark University at 7:00 p.m.
