Lyons Game Day Central: Basketball vs. WPI

THE MATCHUP: Jocelyn Portmann Mount Holyoke returns home to face off against WPI tomorrow evening (7:00 p.m.) at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. After posting a 51-46 in the NEWMAC Championship in 2007, the Lyons have fallen in each of their last eight contests against the Engineers. They were downed 44-35 and 47-26 by their conference rivals last season. Guard Christine Chancy recorded a double-double on 15 points and 10 rebounds to pace Mount Holyoke in the first meeting. Forward Elle Fontaine scored 14 of her 16 points over the final 8:05 for WPI, which closed out the game on an 11-3 run to seal things. MHC Logo THE LYONS: Mount Holyoke (2-10, 0-6 NEWMAC) has picked up victories over Western New England University (66-53) and Simmons College (55-33) thus far this season. The Lyons have been paced by guard Angelica Pascual, who has netted 10.6 points per game to go with 20 assists and 17 steals. She has drained 11 shots from beyond the arc. Fellow guard Annabel Barrett has knocked down 10 treys en route to 9.1 points per game. Meanwhile, forward Amber Legare has made an immediate impact on the program with 7.7 points and 6.9 rebounds per outing. Her 14 blocked shots are good for tops on the team. Guard Jasmine Brown has dished out 23 assists to set the tone for Mount Holyoke's offense.

Opponent Logo THE ENGINEERS: WPI (3-10, 1-5 NEWMAC) has dropped five straight contests after earning wins over Anna Maria College (61-49), Worcester State University (53-46) and Wheaton College (47-36) in the first three weeks of the season. Forward Theresa Logan has tallied 10.6 points and 6.0 rebounds per game to lead the way for the Engineers. WPI has also received a boost from guard Lauren Hannmann, who has recorded 10.2 points and 5.4 boards per outing. She has been the team's most dangerous player on the perimeter, pouring in 19 three-pointers thus far. Newcomer Dani Davis has posted 7.5 points per game. Meanwhile, guard Baillie McNally has racked up 43 assists and 21 steals.

NEXT UP: Both squads will resume their NEWMAC schedules on Saturday. Mount Holyoke is slated to visit the Coast Guard Academy at 1:00 p.m. Meanwhile, WPI will entertain Wellesley College at 3:00 p.m.
