Pascual Picks Up Lyon of the Week Honors

Angelica Pascual

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Jan. 17, 2012) – Junior Angelica Pascual has earned the Lyon of the Week Award for the week of January 9-15 after leading the basketball team to a 63-51 triumph over the Coast Guard Academy on Saturday.

The guard was nearly unstoppable in the contest, pouring in a season-best 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the floor. She netted a pair of three-pointers and also pulled down four rebounds.

After falling behind 19-7 in the early going, Mount Holyoke used an aggressive full court press to claw its way back into the contest. The Lyons took a 28-27 advantage into the break and pulled away with a 7-0 run in the waning minutes. It was their first NEWMAC win of the season.

Pascual scored 17 more points in her team's heartbreaking 63-59 overtime loss to WPI on Wednesday. She went 6-of-11 from the floor, knocking down three shots from beyond the arc. The guard also chipped in with three rebounds and four assists.

WPI seemingly had the game wrapped up before Mount Holyoke exploded for a 12-2 run over the final three minutes of regulation to force overtime. Senior guard Christine Chancy capped off the furious rally in dramatic fashion, draining a long jumper from the right side at the buzzer.

The Engineers rebounded in the extra session, outscoring Mount Holyoke 9-5 to seal things. They broke a 56-56 deadlock with six consecutive points over a span of 2:10 down the stretch.

Over the course of the week, Pascual averaged 20.0 points per game on 57.7% (15-26) shooting from the floor. She converted 83.3% (5-6) of her free throws.

In 63 career games played, she has posted 11.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per outing. Her 37 points against Agnes Scott College in the opening game of the 2010 Seven Sisters Classic were a program record.

Mount Holyoke (3-11, 1-7 NEWMAC) is slated to visit Springfield College on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
