    With eighth year head coach Michelle Scecina leading the way, the Mount Holyoke basketball team posted an overall record of 7-17 in 2011-12. The Lyons were one of the hottest teams in the NEWMAC down the stretch, winning four of their final five games. They closed out the year with consecutive victories over Coast Guard, Springfield and Wheaton.

    The NEWMAC recently announced its 2011-12 Winter Academic All-Conference Teams. Seven Mount Holyoke student-athletes were recognized for their achievements in their respective sports as well as in the classroom. Academic All-Conference Teams were selected for the sports of swimming and diving and basketball.

    Three members of Mount Holyoke's basketball team will be featured guests on ESPN Springfield's "College Weekly" tomorrow from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. Eighth year head coach Michelle Scecina will be joined in-studio at the Basketball Hall of Fame by senior captain Tricia Chase and first year Amber Legare.

    Mount Holyoke celebrated senior day with a dramatic 66-62 triumph over NEWMAC foe Wheaton this afternoon. Trailing 59-55 with just over three minutes remaining in regulation, the Lyons reeled off nine straight points at never looked back. Christine Chancy and Tricia Chase were honored prior to the game.

    Mount Holyoke closes out its 2011-12 campaign versus NEWMAC foe Wheaton Saturday afternoon (1:00 p.m.) at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. The Lyons fell 55-42 in the first meeting of the season between the teams on January 7. A senior day celebration is slated to take place on the court prior to the contest. Tricia Chase and Christine Chancy will be honored.
  • Basketball Uses Balanced Attack to Stun Springfield

    Using a balanced scoring attack, Mount Holyoke knocked off NEWMAC foe Springfield 64-53 this evening at the Mildred S. Howard. After falling behind 17-8 in the early going, the Lyons erupted for a 22-4 run and never looked back. It was their second win in a row and first over the Pride since the 2006-07 season. Senior guard Christine Chancy led the hosts with 13 points.

    Mount Holyoke hosts NEWMAC foe Springfield tomorrow evening (7:00 p.m.) at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. The Lyons suffered a 66-57 setback to the Pride on January 18 despite 16 points from Angelica Pascual. Pascual was joined in double figures by Christine Chancy and Amber Legare.

    First year Amber Legare has earned the Lyon of the Week Award for the week of February 6-12 after leading the basketball team to a 59-57 triumph over Coast Guard on Saturday. The forward was nearly unstoppable in the contest, pouring in a career-best 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the floor. She netted all five of her free throws and also piled up a career-high four blocked shots.

    Mount Holyoke has partnered with the WBCA to raise awareness in the fight against breast cancer through the Play 4Kay initiative. Play 4Kay is a global, unified effort for the WBCA nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. The Lyons will Play 4Kay on Saturday during their game against Coast Guard.

    Led by junior Angelica Pascual, Mount Holyoke rolled to a 58-46 triumph over NEWMAC foe MIT this afternoon at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. The guard poured in 19 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the floor and drained three shots from beyond the arc. With the win, the Lyons snapped a five-game losing streak and avenged a 43-36 setback at MIT earlier this season.

    Mount Holyoke fell 85-36 to nationally-ranked Babson this afternoon at Staake Gymnasium. First year guard Kate Karraker scored a career-best seven points to lead the way for the Lyons. Babson entered the contest ranked 16th in the latest D3hoops.com National Poll.

The Lyons were downed 66-33 by the Pioneers in the NEWMAC opener for both teams on November 30. They were paced by Annabel Barrett, who posted eight points. Tricia Chase and Angelica Pascual added six points apiece, while Nicole DeMarchena pulled down six rebounds.

Senior guard Christine Chancy forced the extra session with a dramatic buzzer beater from the right corner. Her shot capped off a furious 12-2 rally by the Lyons over the final three minutes of regulation.
