Track and Field's Wohlin Tabbed as NCAA Woman of the Year Nominee

South Hadley, Mass. - July 8, 2021 - Recent graduate and former track and field standout Isabelle Wohlin (Wellesley, Mass.) was recently selected as Mount Holyoke College's nominee for the 2021 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

Rooted in Title IX, the NCAA Woman of the Year Award was established in 1991 to recognize graduating female student-athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.

"I am proud of Isabelle for all of her accomplishments that led her to be chosen as Mount Holyoke College's NCAA Woman of the Year Award nominee," commented interim Director of Athletics at Mount Holyoke College, Erica Lemm. "Isabelle is an outstanding leader whose academic and athletic achievements as well as her campus and community engagements are fitting for this honor."

On the track, Wohlin is responsible for possessing 13 separate Top-10 performance marks at Mount Holyoke College, including the program record in the 60 meter hurdles. Elected as a team captain prior to both her junior and senior season, Wohlin is also No. 4 all-time in the 60 meter dash and the 100 meter hurdles, as well as a member of the 4x400 relay team that holds the No. 3 all-time mark in that event. Throughout her career, Wohlin was also a three-time qualifier for the Division III New England Championships.

Wohlin was impressive in the classroom throughout her career at Mount Holyoke College as the Environmental Studies major produced a grade-point average of 3.95 while also adding a Statistics minor and Five College Sustainability Studies certificate prior to graduating Magna Cum Laude in May of 2021. Also prior to graduation, Wohlin earned the High Honor in Environmental Studies and was named a Mary Lyon Scholar. Additionally, Wohlin was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society, the oldest undergraduate honors organization in the United States, and into Mu Sigma Rho, the national honorary society for statistics. Wohlin also won the Environmental Scholar Award and was named a Scholar-Athlete in addition to landing on the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Academic All-Conference team in 2019, 2020 and 2021.

"Isabelle made an immediate impact on our program from the moment she stepped on campus," said head cross country and track and field coach Chris Kibler. "In her very first collegiate meet she set the school record in the 60 meter hurdles and never looked back. This is a deserving honor and I am excited to see Isabelle translate her leadership skills as she joins an elite force of Mount Holyoke College alums that continue to be leaders around the world."

Off the track, Wohlin was very involved in the Mount Holyoke College campus community. Wohlin served as a mentor and academic tutor at Girls Inc. of the Valley, as well as a Sustainability Intern and Community & Sustainability Coordinator at the Miller Worley Center for the Environment, located on campus. She was also an Environmental Studies Department Student Liason, serving as a peer resource for sophomores choosing majors and for first-years who had questions about particular courses or programs.

Wohlin was elected to serve as Treasurer of the Mount Holyoke College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) in addition to also representing the track and field program for one year. During her tenure on SAAC, Wohlin oversaw the Legislation and Programming sub-committee, helped run the annual Toy Drive, and met with the Executive Board, Faculty Athletics Representative and Administrative Liaison to drive initiatives including Division III Week programming and a proposed Faculty Mentor Program.

Wohlin is among nine nominees from the NEWMAC for the 2021 NCAA Woman of the Year award. The conference Athletics Directors will select the NEWMAC representative(s) which will be announced later this month. The NCAA Woman of the Year award honors student-athletes based on academic, athletics, service and leadership.

"The accomplishments and accolades of the NEWMAC nominees for the 2020-21 NCAA Woman of the Year are even more impressive this year due to the added complexity of COVID-19 on our campuses", said Executive Director Patrick B. Summers. "I continue to be in awe and amazed of NEWMAC student-athletes' dedication to academic and athletic excellence and their commitment to community service and leadership. These women are true leaders and will continue to impact our world in a positive way."
