Senior Maggie Anderson (Clarence, N.Y.), a Biology major and field hockey student-athlete at Mount Holyoke College, will graduate at the completion of the Spring 2021 semester.

A four-year member of the program and defender for the Lyons, Anderson played in nine games during her career at Mount Holyoke despite being injured for the entirety of her sophomore season. Anderson's collegiate debut was versus Clark University on September 16, 2017.

From Head Mount Holyoke Field Hockey Coach, Andy Whitcomb

"Maggie Anderson was a critical part of our team for the past four years. Maggie struggled through injuries but never missed practices and never missed an opportunity to help her teammates shine. Maggie started off her career at Mount Holyoke as a camper and then we were thrilled when she applied. Maggie helped to keep the level high when competing at practices and always made the most of her time when competing in games. Maggie is a beloved teammate who will be sorely missed. Her affable personality and ability to bring people together will serve her long after graduation.

On behalf of all the coaches, we congratulate Maggie on her last roar!"

More about Maggie…

Overall, share a few sentences about your time as a student-athlete at Mount Holyoke College. How has your experience as a student-athlete helped develop you into the person you are today?

When I committed to Mount Holyoke and its athletic program, I was looking forward to so many things such as being able to play the sport I love, meeting new people, and beginning a new chapter of my life. I never imagined my experience as a Mount Holyoke student-athlete would have such an impact on my life.

Being a student-athlete has helped me become more determined, hardworking, and confident. Juggling classes, practices, studying, and time with friends improved my work ethic, communication, and time-management skills.

What were some of your favorite memories as a member of your team?

My favorite memories include the bus rides back to campus after a win! The bus is filled with dancing, singing, and cheering. Nights spent in the library or Old Blanch studying all together, helping each other, and overall making the work a bit more enjoyable.

However, my absolute favorite memory was my senior day. It was not what I expected as it took place through Zoom, due to the pandemic, but to say the least, it just made it more memorable. The coaches and team went above and beyond and I will be forever grateful for them. I will always remember my time spent playing with them and all the relationships and memories made.

What are your plans following graduation?

Right now, I am in the process of applying to graduate schools for a Master's of Public Health in nutrition.

Who have been some of your biggest supporters during your time at Mount Holyoke College? This can be anyone (i.e. family, friends, professors, coaches, etc.)

My parents are some of my biggest supporters. They helped me with the college process and supported me to follow my passion wherever it led me, even if it was almost six hours from home. Living out of state made it difficult for them to be at every game, but they never failed to call me after each game. I am incredibly grateful for all of their love and support.

My best friends, teammates, and coaches were also some of my biggest supporters. When looking at schools, I wanted a team that was like family, without any doubt, I can say that the MHCFH team exceeded my expectations. I did not expect to form such strong friendships. Some days are harder than others, but having teammates like the ones I have makes those harder days easier.

I am also thankful for the support of the athletic trainers. I was unable to play the season of my sophomore year due to an injury. Sitting on the sidelines was very difficult for me. The AT's understood my frustration and worked with me for countless hours to help me get physically and mentally stronger and back on the field.

What is your favorite Mount Holyoke tradition?

Mountain Day is my favorite Mount Holyoke tradition. Hearing the bells ring in the morning, signaling that special day, is a big relief as it welcomes a much-needed day off. At the top of the mountains, I love seeing all the surrounding scenery, as well as everyone laughing, taking pictures, and enjoying the day.

Any words of advice you have for the future student-athletes of Mount Holyoke College?

My advice for future student-athletes would be to savor every moment, to stop every now and then, and study your surroundings, the weather, the smell of the air, the people around you, and the conversations being had. It is the small moments that make all the challenges worth it; however, they are gone within a blink of an eye. I remember as a first-year, my senior teammates telling us to embrace every moment as the four-years come to an end quickly. I will forever be grateful and cherish my time at Mount Holyoke and all the relationships and memories I've made, even though it was over in a blink of an eye.
