Track & Field Excels at Day 1 of ECAC Championships

TROY, N.Y. – It was an outstanding opening day of action at the 2014 ECAC Championships for the Mount Holyoke College track & field team, which saw four athletes at the event, hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Highlighting the day was sophomore captain Camille Coklow, who won her preliminary heat in the 100-meter dash to qualify for the event finals.

Coklow (Chicago, Ill./The Latin School of Chicago) posted a season's best time of 12.07 to post the top preliminary time of the day. She will now compete in Friday's event finals, set to run at 1:35pm. Senior captain Kristina Weld (Warwick, Mass./Pioneer Valley Regional) concluded her solid career on Thursday, finishing 18th overall in the hammer throw with a distance of 43.22 meters.

Also in action was junior Amber Legare (Chicopee, Mass./Chicopee Comprehensive), competing in the seven-event Heptathlon. She finished 11th in the 100-meter hurdles, posting a time of 17.37. She also placed 12th in the high jump with a mark of 1.36 meters.

Legare went on to win the shot put event, recording a career-best mark of 10.99 meters, before concluding the day with an eighth-place mark of 27.94 in the 200-meter dash. Currently, she is eighth of 15 competing athletes with a score of 2,255 points. Legare will conclude action in the Heptathlon on Friday beginning at 10am.

Rounding out the action on Thursday was junior captain Dana Fry (Tempe, Ariz./Miss Porter's School), who finished 27th in the 10,000-meter run. She posted an overall time of 40:58.95 to conclude her season.

Action at the ECAC Championships concludes on Friday as Legare kicks off action with the first of the final three events of the Heptathlon beginning at 10am.
