Track & Field Finishes Well at Wesleyan Invitational

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Mount Holyoke College indoor track & field team kicked off the 2014 portion of its schedule on Saturday at the Wesleyan Invitational. There were a number of outstanding performances for the Lyons, including a win in the 800-meter run by sophomore Elizabeth DeLeon.

DeLeon captured victory in her event, posting a time of 2:27.20. That mark was also a qualifying mark for the New England Division III Championships. Sophomore Camille Coklow also had a solid effort, finishing third in the 60-meter dash. Her time of 8.10 not only qualified her for New England's, but also the ECAC Championships.

Senior Kristina Weld finished second in the weight throw with a distance of 12.79 meters. That mark was just 11 centimeters shy of qualifying for New England's. In the shot put event, junior Jennie Ochterski placed fifth with a mark of 9.46 meters, that was also a personal best, while classmate Regina Crawford was eighth with a personal best throw of 9.17 meters.

First year Hannah Feinman also had a strong effort on the day, advancing to the finals in the long jump, the triple jump and the 60-meter hurdles. Overall, she finished seventh (3.99 meters), fourth (9.16 meters) and sixth (11.17), respectively.

Rounding out the solid action was the 4x400-meter relay team of Coklow, Janelle Portmann, Gretchen Rowe and Naomi Miller. The foursome placed fourth overall with a time of 4:30.25.

The Lyons return to action next Saturday when they compete at the Smith College Benyon Invitational. That meet begins at 11am.
