Track & Field Competes at Southern Maine Invitational

GORHAM, Maine - The Mount Holyoke College track & field team competed at the multi-divisional University of Southern Maine Invitational on Saturday. A number of solid finishes helped the Lyons to 10th overall, including a fourth-place finish in the gruelling 3,000-meter run by sophomore Elizabeth DeLeon.

DeLeon posted a time of 10:51.06 in the 3000, while first year Brianna Weir placed sixth in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:45.26. Additionally, junior captain Dana Fry was eighth in the 1-mile run, crossing the finish line with a time of 5:36.41.

Other strong performances included the 4x200 and the 4x400 relay teams. Led by Fry, first year Tina Lugor, juniors Sarah Fleming and Gretchen Rowe, along with sophomore Janelle Portmann, the 4x200 team finished fifth overall with a time of 2:00.20.

Rowe, Portmann and Fry, along with first year Ellie Babcock then posted a time of 4:47.34 as the 4x400 relay team was seventh overall.

In the field events, senior Kristina Weld shined in the 20lb. weight throw, finishing fifth overall with a distance of 12.47 meters.

The Lyons return to action next Saturday when they compete at the MIT Invitational in Cambridge.
