Track & Field Competes at New England DIII Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Mount Holyoke College track & field team opened action at the 2014 New England Division III Championships on Friday. Through the opening day of action, the Lyons currently do not have a team score, but have seen a number of solid finishes throughout the day.

Leading the way was junior Amber Legare (Chicopee, Mass.), who after the opening round sits sixth in the Heptathlon with a score of 2,325 points. Among the highlights of her day included finishing third in the shot put with a mark of 10.62 meters. She also placed seventh in the high jump with a height of 1.39 meters, while also placing fifth and sixth in the 200-meter dash (27.71) and the 100-meter hurdles (16.98), respectively.

Legare will conclude action in the Heptathlon on Saturday. Other solid performances included senior captain Kristina Weld (Warwick, Mass.), who placed 14th overall in the hammer throw with a distance of 42.40.

First year Hannah Rickard (Traverse, Mich.) also had a strong effort, finishing 15th overall in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 41:38.75.

The Lyons continue action on Saturday at Springfield College. Events will kick off at 10am with team awards set to be announced at 5:15pm.
