Legare Concludes Action at Open New England Championships

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Junior Amber Legare wrapped-up the action for Mount Holyoke College at the multi-divisional 2014 Open New England Championships, hosted by Westfield State University. Legare competed in the final three-events of Heptathlon on Saturday, which included a third-place finish in the javelin throw.

Legare (Chicopee, Mass./Chicopee Comprehensive) posted a distance of 32.56 meters to place third in the javelin. It was a collegiate-best for her. She also finished ninth in the long jump with a mark of 4.44 meters and was 10th in the 800-meter run with a personal-best time of 2:48.65.

Day one saw Legare compete in first four of the seven events. She finished second overall in the shot put with a mark of 10.37 meters. She also placed ninth in the high jump with a height of 1.31 meters while posting collegiate-best marks in the 100-meter hurdles (16.81) and the 200-meter dash (27.49). She was seventh and sixth, respectively in the two events.

Overall, Legare finished ninth in the Heptathlon with a school-record mark of 3,679 points. She was also the only Division III athlete competing in the seven-event competition.

The Lyons season continues next weekend when four student-athlete head to Troy, N.Y., to compete in the 2014 ECAC Outdoor Championships, hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Legare will once again compete in the Heptathlon, sophomore Camille Coklow will be in the 100-dash, while junior Dana Fry and senior Kristina Weld will compete in the 10,000-meter run and Hammer Throw, respectively.

Action for all four athletes begins on Thursday and runs through Friday.
