Track & Field Competes at Open New England Championships

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Amid rainy conditions, two members of the Mount Holyoke College track & field team were in action on Friday afternoon at the multi-divisional Open New England Championships, hosted by Westfield State University. Highlighting the day was junior Amber Legare, who is currently competing in the heptathlon.

Legare (Chicopee, Mass./Chicopee Comprehensive) competed in four of the seven events of the Heptathlon on Friday. She finished second overall in the shot put with a mark of 10.37 meters. She also placed ninth in the high jump with a height of 1.31 meters while posting collegiate-best marks in the 100-meter hurdles (16.81) and the 200-meter dash (27.49). She was seventh and sixth, respectively in the two events.

Legare will conclude action in the Heptathlon on Saturday, beginning at 10am. She will compete in the long jump, the javelin and the 800-meter run. Legare is looking to best her school record mark from two weeks ago at the Aloha Relays when she posted 3,594 points.

Also in action for the Lyons was sophomore Camille Coklow (Chicago, Ill./The Latin School of Chicago), who finished 10th overall in the competitive 100-meter dash. Though she did not advance to Saturday's finals - missing by just two spots- she did record a time of 12.35, which is the second-best time she has run this season.

The Open New England Championships conclude on Saturday at 10am. Live stats for the event can be followed by clicking HERE.
