SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Jan. 6, 2012) – The Mount Holyoke College soccer program has earned the prestigious National Soccer Coaches Association of America Ethics/Sportsmanship Gold Award  after completing its entire season without receiving either a yellow or red card. Assistant coach Carly Gettler will accept the award on behalf of the program at the NSCAA Convention in Kansas City next week. The Lyons were one of just 13 teams from around the nation to be honored.

Ethics Awards are handed out annually to intercollegiate teams in all divisions that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game. Winners are broken up into three categories, based on the number of yellow cards that they received throughout the season. All 82 teams went the entire year without a red card.

Gold Award winners received no yellow cards and included Anderson University, Anna Maria College, Boston University, Bridgewater College, Bryn Mawr College, Delaware Valley College, Johns Hopkins University, the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, Muskingum University, Southern Vermont College, the University of Scranton and the Coast Guard Academy in addition to Mount Holyoke.

Silver Awards were given to teams that had a maximum five yellow cards. Meanwhile, Bronze Awards were distributed to teams with a maximum of 10 yellows.

The Lyons closed out their season with an overall record of 5-11-0. They went 2-7-0 in league play.
