Lyons Game Day Central: Soccer vs. WPI

THE MATCHUP: Mount Holyoke hosts NEWMAC foe WPI Tuesday afternoon (4:30 p.m.) at the Soccer Field. Last fall, the Lyons fell 4-0 at WPI. Forward Megan Forti notched a natural hat trick in the first half to lead the way for the Engineers. In 14 previous meetings between the programs, WPI owns a 10-3 advantage. MHC Logo THE LYONS: Mount Holyoke (3-8-0, 2-4-0 NEWMAC) has defeated Colby-Sawyer College (2-1), Smith College (3-1) and the Coast Guard Academy (3-2) thus far this season. The Lyons have been paced by Hannah Yee, who has made an immediate impact on the program with her outstanding all-around play. In addition to facilitating the team's offense from the midfielder, she has also knocked in a team-best four goals. Fellow midfielder Mallory Phaneuf has recorded a goal and four assists. Meanwhile, forwards Margaret Hanmer and Mary Cooke have netted two goals apiece. Forward Kiana Lussier has chipped in with a goal and two helpers. Emily Shank, Mackenzie Randall and Taylor Bradley have all seen time between the pipes for Mount Holyoke. They have combined or 95 saves.    

Opponent Logo THE ENGINEERS: WPI (2-11-1, 0-5-1 NEWMAC) has suffered four straight setbacks after defeating the Wentworth Institute of Technology 1-0 on September 29. The Engineers also downed Salve Regina University 4-2 in their season opener and finished in a scoreless deadlock with the Coast Guard Academy on September 24. Midfielder Kelly Ames has scored three of WPI's six goals. The Engineers have also received solid production from forward Courtney Langley, who has recorded a goal and two assists. Forward Megan Forti and defender Hailey Taylor have each found the back of the net once. Maddie Willer has played all 1280 minutes between the pipes for WPI. She has turned away 92 shots en route to a goals against average of 2.11. 

NEXT UP: Mount Holyoke is slated to visit Elms College for a non-conference contest beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, WPI will resume its NEWMAC schedule at Wellesley College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
