Lyons Game Day Central: Soccer vs. MIT

THE MATCHUP: Mount Holyoke and MIT square off for a pivotal NEWMAC match Saturday afternoon (1:00 p.m.) at the Soccer Field. The Lyons will be looking for their first win over the Engineers since the 2003 season. Last year, they fell 6-0 despite 12 saves from goalkeeper Elaine Harvey. Defender Andrea Park paced MIT with a goal and three assists. In 18 previous meetings between the programs, the Engineers own a 12-6 advantage. PINK KICK DAY: In an effort to raise awareness in the fight against breast cancer, Mount Holyoke players and coaches will be wearing pink during the match. Players will add pink socks and shoelaces to their uniforms and will also sport pink t-shirts during their pre-game warm-up. Over the course of the day, donations will be accepted, with all proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Founadation. MHC Logo THE LYONS: Mount Holyoke (3-7-0, 2-3-0 NEWMAC) has defeated Colby-Sawyer College (2-1), Smith College (3-1) and the Coast Guard Academy (3-2) thus far this season. The Lyons have been paced by Hannah Yee, who has made an immediate impact on the program with her outstanding all-around play. In addition to facilitating the team's offense from the midfielder, she has also knocked in a team-best four goals. Fellow midfielder Mallory Phaneuf has recorded a goal and four assists. Meanwhile, forwards Margaret Hanmer and Mary Cooke have netted two goals apiece. Forward Kiana Lussier has chipped in with a goal and two helpers. Emily Shank, Mackenzie Randall and Taylor Bradley have all seen time between the pipes for Mount Holyoke. They have combined or 83 saves.    

Opponent Logo THE ENGINEERS: MIT (7-3-2, 2-1-2 NEWMAC) has dropped two straight matches after jumping out to a 7-1 record this fall. Forward Emily Kuo and defender Andrea Park have collected two goals and one assist apiece to set the tone for the Engineers. Midfielder Ambika Krishnamachar has also netted a pair of goals. Meanwhile, defender Samantha Fleischmann, midfielder Stephanie Cooke and midfielder Allison Park have contributed one goal and one assist each. Meghan Wright has been MIT's featured goalkeeper. In 1030 minutes played, she has turned away 63 shots. 

NEXT UP: Both squads are slated to host NEWMAC matches on Tuesday. Mount Holyoke will face off against WPI at 4:30 p.m., while MIT will tangle with Wellesley College at 4:00 p.m.
