Senior Day Program

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Oct. 29, 2011) – Senior midfielder Jackie Moscardelli knocked in a pair of goals to lead the Springfield College soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Mount Holyoke College on a snowy afternoon at the Mount Holyoke Soccer Field. The match was called at the 19:18 mark of the second half, when the field became unsuitable for play.

Veronica Farmer First years Amber Legare and Hannah Yee posted two shots apiece to lead the way for the Lyons, who closed out their season with an overall record of 5-11-0 and a NEWMAC mark of 2-7-0.

Prior to the contest, a senior day celebration took place to honor Margaret Hanmer, Mary Cooke, Jacinta Edebeli, Caddy Tootell, Sidney Snyder, Kelsey Graaskamp and Ghita Hassoun for the contributions to the Mount Holyoke program over the last four years.

Springfield jumped out to a 1-0 edge just over nine minutes into the contest, when Moscardelli lofted a shot over the outstretched arms of first year goalkeeper Mackenzie Randall from about 25 yards out.

The Pride extended their cushion to 2-0 on a goal by senior forward Katie Mantie 2:47 later. After gaining possession of a long free kick from junior defender Mary Hogan in the middle of the box, she slipped a shot past Randall for her team-leading 13th tally of the fall.

Moscardelli scored one more time just over five minutes into the second stanza to extend Springfield's lead to 3-0. This time, she fired a shot into the left side of the net from just outside the box. It was her sixth goal of the year.

The Pride finished with advantages in both shots (22-6) and corners (3-1). Junior goalkeeper Erin Greenstein made two saves en route to her ninth shutout of the season.

At the other end, Randall turned away five shots for the Lyons before giving way to junior Emily Shank, who made a pair of saves in the final 14 minutes.

With its ninth straight win, Springfield clinched the NEWMAC regular season championship for the second year in a row. The Pride will enter next week's NEWMAC Tournament as the top seed and will both Semifinal matches as well as the Championship.
