SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Apr. 23, 2011) – The Mount Holyoke College women's lacrosse team suffered a 17-2 setback to NEWMAC foe Springfield College in its regular season finale at the Turf Field this afternoon. Senior Vika Planson and junior midfielder Hilary Bombard recorded goals for the hosts.

Prior to the contest, a Senior Day Celebration took place to honor Planson, Georgia Markell and Bianca Young for their contributions to the Mount Holyoke program over the last four years. Young went on to record five caused turnovers in the game, while Markell added four ground balls.

Springfield was paced by senior attacker Meagan Dobson, who racked up three goals and three assists. Junior midfielder Jackie Moscardelli found the back of the net four times, while sophomore midfielder Meghan Flanagan added two goals and a pair of helpers.

The Pride tallied the first six goals of the game and led 8-2 at the break. They then outscored Mount Holyoke 9-0 in the second half to seal things.

Springfield finished with edges in shots (35-10), draw controls (12-9) and ground balls (26-17). First year goalkeeper Anne Versprille made six saves en route to her 10th win of the year. At the other end, sophomore Jamie Theophilos turned away 11 shots for the hosts.

Springfield (10-5, 6-0 NEWMAC) has clinched the top seed in next week's NEWMAC Tournament and will host both semifinal games, as well as the championship. The Pride closed out the regular season with a perfect 6-0 mark in league play. Mount Holyoke's (5-9, 2-4 NEWMAC) postseason fate will be determined by the results of the contest between MIT and Wheaton College, which was postponed due to inclement weather conditions today. The tournament is slated to begin with a Quarterfinal Round game on Wednesday.
