THE MATCHUP: Mount Holyoke faces off against NEWMAC rival MIT Saturday afternoon (1:00 p.m.) at the Mount Holyoke Turf Field. In 21 previous meetings between the programs, the Lyons own an 11-10 advantage. They suffered a 13-11 overtime setback in Cambridge, Mass. when the two squads met last spring. THE LYONS: Mount Holyoke (3-5, 0-1 NEWMAC) has dropped three straight games after rolling to consecutive wins over Westfield State University, Concordia University and the University of New England. The Lyons have been paced by attacker Liz Randolph, who has racked up 15 goals, four assists and 14 draw controls over her first eight collegiate contests. Midfielder Hilary Bombard has collected 11 goals, while attacker Alex Crean has accounted for 10. Mount Holyoke has also received solid production from midfielder Vika Planson, who has amassed six goals, four assists and 17 ground balls. Goalkeepers Jamie Theophilos and Melissa Saale have totaled 38 and 22 saves, respectively.
THE ENGINEERS: MIT (5-2, 1-0 NEWMAC) has rolled to three straight wins after splitting its first four games of the season. The Engineers have defeated Gordon College (16-3), Keene State College (12-8), Emerson College (9-6), Western Connecticut State University (14-8) and Smith College (9-3) thus far. They have been paced by midfielder Katie Kauffman, who has exploded for 14 goals and five assists. Three of her tallies have gone down as winners. Attacker Erica Little has accounted for 10 goals and seven assists. Meanwhile, midfielder Laura Wacker and attacker Kelly Duncan have found the back of the net 13 times apiece. Sarah Ritter and Allison Hamilos have split time between the pipes for MIT, combing for 62 saves.
NEXT UP: Mount Holyoke will put the finishing touches on a three game homestand next Saturday at 1:00 p.m. against Wheaton College. Meanwhile, MIT is slated to visit Framingham State University for a non-conference tilt on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
