THE MATCHUP: Mount Holyoke puts the finishing touches on a three game homestand versus NEWMAC foe Wheaton College Saturday afternoon (1:00 p.m.) at the Turf Field. In 35 previous meetings between the programs, Wheaton owns a 22-10 advantage. The teams have finished in a deadlock three times. They split a pair of games last spring. THE LYONS: Mount Holyoke (4-5, 1-1 NEWMAC) picked up its first NEWMAC win of the season on Saturday, when it overcame an early deficit to defeat MIT 15-12. Midfielder Naomi Miller exploded for four goals and one assist in the contest to set the tone for the Lyons. Attacker Liz Randolph has made an immediate impact on the program, recording team highs of 18 goals and four assists. Mount Holyoke has also received solid production from attacker Alex Crean and midfielder Hilary Bombard, who have tallied 11 goals apiece. Midfielder Vika Planson has delivered nine goals and four assists, while defender Bianca Young has collected team highs of 20 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers. Goalkeeper Jamie Theophilos has made 51 saves.
THE LYONS: Wheaton suffered a 16-2 setback versus Amherst College on Thursday after picking up consecutive wins over Smith College (21-9) and Gordon College (17-9). The Lyons have also defeated Salve Regina University (19-9) and Keene State College (15-12) thus far this season. Attacker Hailey Colburn has exploded for 35 goals and six assists to set the tone. Three of her tallies have gone down as game winners. Wheaton has also received a boost from attacker Charlotte DeSantis, who has delivered 26 goals and six assists. Fellow frontliner Tess Meyer has scored 13 times and assisted on 15 other tallies. Marianna Macellino has been the team's featured goalkeeper. In 464 minutes played, she has made 100 saves.
NEXT UP: Both squads will resume their NEWMAC schedules on Tuesday. Mount Holyoke will visit Smith College at 5:00 p.m., while Wheaton will host Babson College at 4:30 p.m.
