Babson Uses Big First Half to Top Lacrosse

BABSON PARK, Mass. (Apr. 16, 2011) – Led by sophomore attacker Taylor Kralovenec and junior midfielder Colleen Mulligan, the Babson College women's lacrosse team downed NEWMAC foe Mount Holyoke College 17-6 this afternoon at McDowell Field. Kralovenec racked up six points on three goals and three assists. Meanwhile, Mulligan collected four goals and a helper.

Mary Webster First year attacker Liz Randolph figured in on three of Mount Holyoke's six goals, scoring one and setting up a pair. The Lyons' remaining goals came from sophomore Molly Macdonald, junior Hilary Bombard, first year Naomi Miller, junior Alex Crean and senior Georgia Markell. Bombard chipped in with three draw controls.

Kralovenec and Mulligan were aided up front by senior attacker Alyssa Hood, who piled up three goals, two assists and five draw controls. Junior midfielder Trisha Babson added a pair of goals and eight draw controls.

Babson (6-7, 3-1 NEWMAC) scored the first seven goals of the game and led 10-2 at the break. The Beavers outscored Mount Holyoke 7-4 to close things out after the break. They finished with advantages in shots (13-5), draw controls (17-8) and ground balls (19-14).

Goalkeepers Sarah McCary and Julie Baharestani combined for five saves for the hosts. McCary was credited with four and the win. At the other end, first year goalkeeper Melissa Saale made six stops for the Lyons.

Mount Holyoke (5-7, 2-3 NEWMAC) will return to action on Tuesday, when it visits Wesleyan University at 4:30 p.m.
