SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Nov. 4, 2010) – For the third week in a row, a field hockey player from Mount Holyoke College has received national recognition. Junior Shara Robertson was recently named to the womensfieldhockey.com national honor roll after recording hat tricks in wins over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Springfield College last week.
The forward got her week going with three goals in the Lyons' 4-2 victory over UMass Dartmouth on Wednesday. Using an assist from classmate Taylor Hedges, she put her team in front 2-0 just 11:42 into the contest. After the Corsairs came back to knot things at two, Robertson exploded for two more tallies in the second half to seal things. She put Mount Holyoke in front for good at the 54:31 mark, when she knocked in a pass from first year forward Angelica Pascual. Eight minutes later, she used an assist from first year forward Stephanie Slysz to post her third and final goal of the day.
Robertson recorded her second straight hat trick in Mount Holyoke's 4-1 victory over Springfield on Saturday. It was her fourth triple of the year and the sixth in her outstanding career. With their win, the Lyons clinched homefield advantage for the Quarterfinal Round of the NEWMAC Tournament. Robertson got her team on the board at the 7:54 mark, when she scored from point blank range off a feed from Hedges. She then scored two more times to highlight Mount Holyoke's three goal eruption in the first 4:30 of the second stanza. The forward knocked in a rebound to put her team in front 2-1. She then redirected a shot from classmate Tricia Chase to extend their cushion to 4-1.
Robertson closed out the season with team highs of 41 points and 19 goals while also chipping in with three assists. Six of her tallies went down as match winners. Over the course of her career, she has accumulated 91 points on 42 goals and seven assists. The forward has accounted for 13 winners over her three seasons.
Mount Holyoke rounded out its 2010 campaign with an overall record of 11-5. The Lyons fell 4-2 to Springfield in the Quarterfinal Round of the NEWMAC Tournament after posting a 5-3 mark during the regular season.
