THE MATCHUP: Mount Holyoke puts the finishing touches on a three match homestand versus Wesleyan University this evening (7:00) at the Turf Field. In 30 previous meetings between the programs, the Cardinals own an 23-6 advantage. The teams have finished in a deadlock once. Last fall, Wesleyan won by a score of 3-0. The Lyons picked up a 2-0 victory when they met in 2008.

MHC Logo THE LYONS: Mount Holyoke (2-0, 0-0 NEWMAC) has posted back-to-back shutouts to begin the 2010 campaign. After edging Washington College 1-0, the Lyons cruised to a 5-0 triumph over Simmons College on Saturday. In their win over Washington, defender Tricia Chase scored the winner off an assist from midfielder Taylor Hedges in the 62nd minute. Goalkeeper Katie Gibson made three saves en route to her first shutout of the year. She followed that with a pair of stops in Mount Holyoke's win over Simmons. Gibson has now posted nine career shutouts. Forward Shara Robertson found the back of the cage three times to spark the offense. It was her third career hat trick. Fellow forward Jess Fajardo scored what proved to be the winner in the 29th minute, when she redirected a blast by defender Amy Spekhardt over the goalkeeper's shoulder. The Lyons remaining tally came from Chase, who also added an assist in the contest.

Opponent Logo THE CARDINALS: Wesleyan (1-0, 1-0 NESCAC) picked up a 1-0 victory over Williams College in its 2010 debut on Saturday. Forward Averill Roberto's first career goal in the 42nd minute proved to be the winner. Midfielder Blair Ingraham was credited with the assist on the play. On the defensive side of the ball, goalkeeper Tori Redding made six saves en route to her fourth career shutout. The Cardinals had fallen in each of their previous seven contests against Williams by a combined score of 19-7.  It was their first win over the Ephs since the 2003 season.  

NEXT UP: Mount Holyoke will kick off its New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) slate on Friday at Smith College beginning at 4:00 p.m. Meanwhile, Wesleyan is scheduled to visit Colby College for a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) tilt on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
