Slysz Earns National Recognition

Field Hockey SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Oct. 22, 2010) – Mount Holyoke College first year Stephanie Slysz has been named to the womensfieldhockey.com national honor roll for the week of October 11-17. Slysz lifted the Lyons to a perfect 2-0 week with her outstanding play in wins over Castleton State College and MIT. The forward totaled seven points on three goals and an assist.

Two of her tallies came in the Mount Holyoke's 3-0 triumph over Castleton State on Wednesday. She then scored one more time in the Lyons' stunning 3-2 double overtime victory over MIT on Saturday. More importantly, she set up forward Shara Robertson's winner in the 99th minute. With the win, Mount Holyoke put an end to MIT's nine match winning streak. The Engineers entered the contest sitting atop the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) standings with a perfect 5-0 mark. They had secured 12 straight victories over league foes, dating back to the middle of the 2009 campaign.

After a slow start to her collegiate career, Slysz has recorded goals in each of Mount Holyoke's last five matches. Over that span, she has found the back of the cage six times to bring her season total to seven. The Lyons have come out on top in four of those five contests.

Mount Holyoke (8-5, 3-3 NEWMAC) will visit Clark University for a pivotal league tilt tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
