Mount Holyoke took advantage of a penalty corner opportunity to get on the board in the 11th minute. After receiving the injection at the top of the circle, junior defender Tricia Chase fired a pass toward the Castleton State cage. Junior forward Jess Fajardo tipped the feed over the shoulder of Spartans senior goalkeeper Siobhan Whittemore, and Robertson knocked the ball over the end line.

The Lyons extended their cushion to 2-0 on Slysz's first goal of the day in the waning minutes of the first half. Dusha made the initial save on a shot by Fajardo, but Slysz scooped up the rebound and placed a shot into the vacated cage.

Slysz then capped things off with her second tally of the day in the final minute of regulation. After collecting the ball around midfield, she dribbled past several Castleton State defenders, broke in alone and beat junior goalkeeper Bridget Dusha. It was her fifth tally of the fall.

Castleton State's best chance came in the 64th minute, when Chase made a sprawling defensive save on a shot by first year forward Blake Wardell.

The Spartans fell despite a 17-10 edge in the shot column. Mount Holyoke ended the day with an 11-10 advantage in penalty corner chances.

The Lyons received a stellar effort between the pipes from junior goalkeeper Katie Gibson, who came up with a season best 13 saves. It was her fifth shutout of the year and 12th of her career. In the process, she held Castleton State's explosive offense scoreless for the first this year. The Spartans had racked up 50 goals prior to today.

Whittemore got the start in goal for the guests. She made four saves in the first half before giving way to Dusha, who turned away one shot after the break.

Both squads are slated to resume their league schedules on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Mount Holyoke (6-5, 1-3 NEWMAC) will host New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe MIT, while Castleton State (8-5, 2-2 NAC) will entertain North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opponent Thomas College.
